Rating EngineA rating engine is a function within a billing system that assigns the charging rates to a usage event or call detail record (CDR).
Billing Record Rating
This figure shows the how a rating engine of a billing system can calculate the fees associated with specific usage events. This diagram shows that the rating engine receives usage records from network usage, incollects from other companies and other billing records (such as adjustments). The rating engine first identifies the account associated with the usage records and checks for duplicate records. The rate table for the customer account is selected for these records and the appropriate fee is calculated for each record. After the calculated rate is added to the usage detail record, it is sent to the bill pool to await the processing of invoices.
